Balance Career and Family with EI for the Self-Employed
Real estate professionals, and other self-employed Canadians, can now register for access to the Employment Insurance (EI program) - either online or at a Service Canada Centre.
This means, for the first time in this country, there is income protection for people who work for themselves to cope with major life events.
If you register on or before April 1 of this year, you can make a claim for EI benefits as early as January 1st, 2011.
"CREA is thrilled that the Government of Canada listened to REALTORS® and other self-employed Canadians,” says Dale Ripplinger, president of the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).
Bruce Mullett, Chair of CREA’s Federal Affairs Committee adds: “It’s nice to know that REALTORS® now have the choice to balance career and family along with other working Canadians."
