Adding a splash of colour to your home in the form of art can be both inspirational and an easy way to change up the look of each room.
There’s a quote by Roy Adzak about the individuality of art; “Good art is not what it looks like, but what it does to us.”
Art is choice, and more often than not an expensive one at that, and can change the vibe of your space. Make sure ...

Smell is the only one of our five senses that is directly hardwired to our brains and connected to our memories and emotions.
The “smell to sell” is commonly used in real estate to help potential buyers feel at home in your home. Often scents such as fresh baking and flowers will trigger warm feelings and move the purchase of your home along more quickly.
Scent is also ...

As a volunteer firefighter in Prince Edward County, I wanted to share this letter with as many people as I could.
Thanks & Happy Holidays,
Jason Young
This holiday season, the Prince Edward County Fire Department and Fire Prevention Officer Michael Branscombe urge you to treat fire with respect. Every year in Ontario, the joy of the holiday season is marred by tragic fire deaths.

Ideally, a Feng Shui home would be designed and build to take advantage of existing forms, time and facing. Otherwise, we are just dealing with what we get when we are looking at already built homes and communities. With that in mind, we can use some general guidelines in finding a home that conforms with standard Feng Shui principals. These tips are based on forms only, and ...

When thinking of traditional housing in Canada, a brick bungalow might come to mind. Typically with three bedrooms, modest living space and low ceilings the brick bungalow became popular in the 1970-80s. They often provided a great home for families, but certainly the lacked in housing diversity.

The next time the cost of building materials goes up - or your energy-efficiency retrofit estimates are high - maybe you should consider a radically different construction format....the humble Lego block. OK, so maybe that won't help, but it sure would be fun!
Fun is the feeling right now in southern England, where construction of the world's first full-size Lego home is just being completed. The ...

In this crummy economy, one consumer good is still selling strong: home electronics. Homeowners are staying indoors in style - investing in big-screen TVs, surround sound-systems, video game systems, home automation and other technological domestic wonders.
Maybe you've heard of the '90s buzz phrase, "cocooning" during the last recession? It was used to describe the tendencies of people to stay ...

I have a colleague whose husband welded a flag holder to the front of their home - right under their bedroom window - and inserted a large Canadian flag. That was years ago, and it hasn't come down a day since. Sometimes it keeps them up at night when the flagpole creaks against the shutters and the material flaps in high winds. And it keeps their teenage daughter in a perpetual state of embarrassment: ...

You've heard of guestrooms... well, I have a colleague whose brother-in-law built a 'dog room' just off the garage for his two Rottweilers, including a tub so that they could be bathed before they came into the Master's house.
Neat idea - but what about the next person to buy this home? Will they have a need for a bed/bath suite for canines? And could that unique feature possibly even turn them off ...
