The hamlet of Anzac is on the western shore of Willow Lake in the southern region of the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and is in close proximity to Gregoire Lake Provincial Park. It is located approximately 45 kilometres southeast of Fort McMurray and can be accessed from Alberta Highways 63 and 881.
Anzac was established in 1917 as a stopping point on the Alberta Great Waterways Railway Line and was named after the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps that surveyed the area during World War I.
According to the 2010 census, there are 785 residents currently living in Anzac. Community services include a volunteer fire department, a community meeting hall, several outdoor recreational facilities and the Anzac Community School.

Residents can take Highway 881 west to Highway 63 to reach the urban centre of Fort McMurray, about 36 kilometers away. The downtown area provides four shopping malls as well as smaller shopping areas for groceries and many boutiques and salons. Plenty of dining and entertainment opportunities are available. The main portion of the urban centre is business oriented. An industrial division is located a few kilometers to the south. The Fort McMurray regional airport is also easily available off Highway 63.
