Lake Bonavista is a lovely lake community located in the southeast of Calgary. The community is comprised of approximately ~11,000 residents, two thirds of which are over the age of 35 (City of Calgary, 2012). Average family income in this area tends to be higher than the Calgary average, and most residents live in single detached homes (ibid). For those who prefer apartment style living, Lake Bonavista does offer a small number of apartments but quantities are limited.
There are several schools in and around the community of Lake Bonavista for children of all ages: Lake Bonavista School, (K-6) Nickle Junior High (6-9), Saint Bonaventure Junior High School (7-9), Andrew Sibbald School (K-4), St Boniface Elementary School (K-6), Sam Livingston Elementary School (K-4), Dr E.P. Scarlett High School (10-12) and Lord Beaverbrook High School (10-12) (Calgary Board of Education, 2012).
The Lake Bonavista promenade has a small number of shops for homeowners to enjoy. A short drive away from the community, homeowners can venture to the south Southcentre Mall to find an array of staple stores that are sure to fit your shopping needs. A ~15 minute northbound drive on McLeod Trail will also find you at Chinook Mall – one of Calgary’s premier shopping malls. From high-end luxury shopping to toy stores, there are stores at Chinook that will keep every member of the family occupied.
Lake Bonavista has two manmade lakes, Lake Bonavista and Lake Bonaventure - both with walking trails abundant. A variety of activities are offered year round for the family! From Tennis and volleyball to boating, swimming and skating – there is something for everyone to enjoy! Homeowners looking to venture outside of the community will be pleased that Fish Creek Park borders Lake Bonavista to the south and is an excellent place for a walk/bike/run with the family! One of the largest inner city parks in Canada; Fish Creek Park extends more than 20 km (Alberta Parks, 2012)!
For the homeowners that commute to the downtown core, Canyon Meadows and Anderson LRT stations are a short drive or walk from the community and will have you downtown in ~30 minutes.
