Mount Royal (Upper and Lower)
Mount Royal is a beautiful community located in Calgary’s southwest quadrant. Residents and renters of Upper Mount Royal number ~2,100 and additional ~3,200 reside in Lower Mount Royal (City of Calgary, 2012). The age of residents in the Upper Mount Royal area is fairly evenly distributed whilst almost half of residents in the Lower Mount Royal area are between the ages of 25 and 34 (Ibid). Residents and home owners in both Upper and Lower Mount Royal tend to reside in apartment-style homes but a small number of single-detached, semi-detached, and row homes are also available for rent or purchase (Ibid).
There are schools in the Upper and Lower Mount Royal area for children of all ages. These schools include but are not limited to: Earl Grey School (K-6), Maria Montessori School (3-12 yrs), William Reid School (K-4), Elbow Park School (K-6), Connaught School (K-6), Rideau Park School (K-9), St. Monica (K-9), Elboya School (K-9), Lycee Louis Pasteur (1-12), Western Canada High School (10-12) and St. Mary’s (10-12) (Calgary Board of Education, 2012). Furthermore, Mount Royal University falls within the community bounds and provides a short commute for students of all ages.
The shopping in and around Upper/Lower Mount Royal is plentiful. The northern boundary of Mount Royal is 17thAvenue and a highly desirable shopping site for Calgary’s residents. Premier and retail outlets are abundant along 17thAvenue and sure to please homeowners of all ages. Why not enjoy the boutique shopping available along 17th Avenue and then tuck in for a bite to eat at one of Calgary’s premier restaurants? If that’s not enough, Market and Chinook Malls are ~15 minutes from the community and house an array of stores that is sure to please every member of the family.
Parks and trails in and around the Mount Royal community bounds are numerous. A short drive or walk away is the Bow River where residents can enjoy a walk/bike/run along the scenic river for miles. Residents that enjoy a leisurely walk in the park will love the proximity of the community to the following parks: Weaselhead Natural Area, Heritage Park, North Glenmore Park, Altadore Park and Shaganappi Park. Furthermore, the Calgary Golf and Country Club and Earl Grey Golf Club are close by and will provide a challenge for even the most seasoned golfers.
For residents that commute around the city, there are several LRT stations within minutes of the Mount Royal Community. Sultana, Erlton/Stampede, Victoria/Stampede, 39 Avenue and Sunnyside all border the Mount Royal community and can have residents to the downtown core in ~10 minutes.
