In 1892, with a population of approximately 700, Edmonton was incorporated as a town. At the time, most of the populace resided in the Ross Flats or in the area east of 101 Street near Jasper Avenue. In 1905, Edmonton was incorporated as a city and in 1908 a streetcar line was started. By 1912, the northeastern extension of the line ran through the heart of McCauley. From Jasper Avenue, it went north along 97 Street, branched off to the east at 106 Avenue and Norwood Boulevard, and connected at 95 Street. With the streetcar line in place, development in McCauley soon followed. Close to Edmonton’s central business district, McCauley has experienced some redevelopment.
