My good friend Kent has been talking about buying his first house for a while. His parents Lorne and Sandi Zentner were in town last week checking on the city wing of their family business, Silver Sage Beef. It only took a few nights of Sandi sharing her son’s bed and Lorne on an air mattress in the living room of Kent's tiny apartment for them to tell my wife (on her weekly visit to pick up ... Are you thinking of moving this spring?  "Spring" seems to be the most popular time of year for people to put their homes on the market. Everyone always seems to be "waiting for spring"! Whatever the time of year, the most important thing any home seller can ever do is TIDY UP.  In most cases, significant, or even insignificant, renovations aren't really necessary. And by "not necessary", ... Read More...

I was re-entering the conference hall a few minutes before the end of the afternoon break at the Calgary Real Estate Board's annual Forecast yesterday. A dark skinned dude about my height was rocking a really nice suit a few steps ahead of me: very dark grey with pinstripes, a light patterned shirt, and an agressively patterned tie. I already idolized this Harvey Spector figure. The over zealous ... Read More...

When you have kids Christmas is special. Even more for Grandparents. For my mother in law, Sue, it was the Christmas she’s always dreamt about. Sue is an easily excitable, wonderfully supportive, and stubborn woman. This was an incredible year for her. It started in January when I helped Sue purchase her very first home. For a constantly hard working and sacrificing single ... Read More...

Why are you reading this? I'm not a writer. I'm not a journalist, or novelist, or screen writer. I've never been paid a single cent for anything I've written. I’m certainly not Aaron Sorkin. Before you ditch me and go back to Twitter, let me explain. It's the Internet's fault. The intertubes have turned us all into amateur ‘somethings’. I'm an amateur writer, but a real estate professional. ... Read More...

I have a love/hate relationship with statistics. I’ve always believed that statistics provide necessary insight, but they never uncover the entire picture. Making a choice based purely on statistics is a never a good idea. If you don't care much about basketball, you'll probably want to skip to the end. If you love basketball as much as I do, feel free to comment.  This year, for the ... Read More...

During the infamous 'boom' years of 2006-2007 I discovered that, instead of putting my newly acquired kinesiology degree to use, I could make twice as much money doing easy temp work for oil companies.  The first company that hired me was a small office, only about 15 employees; all them dynamic and knowledgable, all of them raking in big time money. The Vice President, Dean, took ... Read More...

This blog is so epic that I created a trailer... Century 21 is always finding ways to be current, innovative, and stay one step ahead. Century 21 doesn't just say they are Smarter Bolder Faster - they live it. Since that's the kind a person I am, and REALTOR that I strive to be, it's a perfect match.  Another perfect match is that Century 21 in the USA sponsors the Bobsled and Skeleton ... Read More...

'Offense wins games. Defense wins championships.' I first heard that while working at a basketball camp in Alaska in 2001. I've heard it many times since and it always proves true. In yesterday's Super Bowl the historically good Denver offense was completely stifled by the Seahawks thoroughly well prepared and relentless defense. When selling your home, just like in football: offense wins ... Read More...
