The walking trails and river valley are favourites for many residents of Red Deer and visitors alike. Many years ago the rail way was relocated to run parallel to Highway 2 rather than cut through the downtown. This new alignment created Taylor Drive, the Superstore shopping area and a pedestrian bridge over the Red Deer river.

McKenzie Trail Recreation Area is a popular destination for picnic lunches, family get togethers, running, cycling and is even featured as part of the Woody's Half Marathon. Myles Peake, of Red Deer, captured this fall scene on one of the trail sections there.
