A Family Friendly Walk in the Park: Rutland

Each month, CENTURY 21 Assurance Realty is going to cover a new neighbourhood in Kelowna and some of our favourite highlights in each area. This month, we’re starting with one of the most underrated and family friendly neighbourhoods that we’ve found in the Kelowna area, Rutland.

Rutland is an affordable neighbourhood and includes a variety of elementary, secondary, public and private schools, making it a promising family neighbourhood. Students in Rutland North have the option of attending Rutland Middle School and students in Rutland South are placed in Springvalley Middle School, while older students are sent to Rutland Senior Secondary School. Options for elementary school students are Pearson Elementary, Quigley Elementary, Rutland Elementary, and Belgo Elementary. For those looking for private options, Rutland offers Heritage Christian School, Vendanta Academy, Okanagan Adventist Academy, and Studio 9, an independent arts based school. The accessibility of these schools makes it a desirable neighbourhood for families looking to own.

Roxby Square is a new addition to Rutland and showcases a number of public events, the first being “Light Up Roxby Square.” In the summertime there is a flea market hosted at Rutland Cennetenial Park.

Behind Rutland Secondary School is the Kelowna Family Y, which offers a number of courses for families to take at a low cost, and child watching options during school breaks. The Kelowna Family Y also has a soccer field behind it, a public pool, walking track and gymnasium area. In the upper Rutland area, you have parks such as the Rutland Cenntenial Park, Edith Gay Park, and Ben Lee Park. Ben Lee Park includes an outdoor skate park, a running track, and a waterpark to encourage kids to spend time outside.
