Canada Post 11th Annual Employee Food Drive November 20,2010

This coming Saturday November 20 Canada Post Employees, their families and friends will be collecting food donations throughout the various neighbourhoods in Kelowna and West Kelowna.  This year the Kelowna Comamunity Food Bank has set a very lofty goal of collecting a 100,000 pounds of food in this single day effort.  Last year the same event saw 36,000 pounds of food collected but the need keeps getting bigger every year.  The Kelowna Food Bank saw over 10,000 hungry children come through their doors in 2009 in need of help.

So how can you make a difference?  Simply leave your non-perishable food items in bags in a visible spot by your front door or in the lobby of your building before 10:00am this coming Saturday.  Canada Post volunteers will be picking these bags of food up between 10am and 3pm.  In the event that your food donations are not picked up Saturday November 20 simply call (250) 860-6058 on Monday November 22 and a Canada Post employee will stop by to pick them up!

Here is the wish list for food items needed:

  • Salmon/Tuna
  • Baby Food
  • Good Start Baby Formula
  • Canned Fruits
  • Rice
  • Boost Drink
  • Canned Pork & Beans
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Packaged Soups
  • Wholewheat Pasta
  • Canned Tomato Products
  • Cereal

My family participated last year and really enjoyed the entire experience and would challenge you to donate this year as well.  I can assure you the need is real and is not going away anytime soon, so whatever you can donate will make a difference I promise you!  Thanks for taking the time to read this and hope you are inspired to take action!

Below is a video interview that I did with Lenetta Thordarson, Associate Executive Director of the Kelowna Community Food Bank explaining the needs of the Food Bank and the impact it is having on our community!

Sincerely,

Jason Neumann
