With a charter that prohibits the City from running a deficit, Vancouver relies on careful planning and stewardship of its finances to ensure that it remains one of the world's most livable cities.

Your city provides day-to-day services such as water and waste disposal, and important community services such as parks and recreation programs — it's your yoga class, your dog licence, your street cleaning, and the water that comes from your tap.

Despite its important role, city government is one of the least understood branches of government.
