Vancouver, BC

Surrounded by water on three sides and nestled alongside the Coast Mountain Range, Vancouver is the largest city in the province of British Columbia with over half a million residents and one of the mildest climates in Canada. Home to spectacular natural scenery and a bustling metropolitan core, Vancouver was Host City to the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010. Whether just relaxing in a park or bike riding around the seawall, there is always something to do in Vancouver.

As Canada's third largest metropolitan area, with a population of 600,000 that continues to grow rapidly, Vancouver needs to provide more services to more people. With a charter that prohibits the City from running a deficit,  Vancouver relies on careful planning and stewardship of its finances to ensure that it remains one of the world's most livable cities.

Whether it's installing traffic lights, repairing the sewer systems or providing books for the public library, the City of Vancouver is working behind the scenes every day to make sure your city runs smoothly.

Your city provides day-to-day services such as water and waste disposal, and important community services such as parks and recreation programs — it's your yoga class, your dog licence, your street cleaning, and the water that comes from your tap.

Despite its important role, city government is one of the least understood branches of government. We want to hear what you think about your city government and the way we manage the budget, as well as provide some answers about how your tax dollars are used to ensure we continue to be a world-class city

The Vancouver Park Board has canceled a planned bike lane that would have been built through Kitsilano Beach.   The $2.2-million, 3.5-km bike lane would have connected Hadden Park near the Maritime Museum to Balsam Street near the Kitsilano outdoor pool. However, immense opposition arose with the project due given the bike lane’s route through playing fields and picnic areas. In ... Read More...

Searching for a rental property can be tough in Vancouver, and while Craigslist seems to be the go to place to find a rental, it is important to know when someone is being scammed.  My best advise is: Do your homework.  In BC we are legislated under the Real Estate Services Act and Residential Tenancy Act.  The legislation is there to provide guidance, and protect both the landlord ... Normally I'm not one to blog about food, but this is a great opportunity to try a new restaurant, or go visit an old favorite.   Wild Rice on West Pender Street will be closing their doors at the end of the month, and I took this opportunity to have one last meal at one of my favorites.  It was fantastic as usual, and I will be sure to make the trek out to New Westminster to check out their ...
