Whistler

Whistler is a mountain resort community like no other. Located in the Coast Mountains, 120 kilometres north of Vancouver, Whistler has a population of 9,824 permanent residents and hosts two million visitors annually.

From the early pioneers to the energetic and innovative community of today, all embrace Whistler’s relationship with nature and the outdoors and a built environment that matches the majesty and quality of the natural surroundings. Outdoor adventure draws residents to Whistler, and the community, vibrancy and lifestyle makes them stay.

The village centre, nestled at the base of the renowned Whistler Blackcomb ski area, is the centre of the community. The pedestrian stroll links the diverse array of restaurants, shops and services, as well as community amenities such as the library, Millennium Place Theatre and the Whistler Conference Centre. The many neighborhoods, trails, parks, schools and other amenities are peppered throughout the valley connected by the 40-kilometre Valley Trail.

Whistler was the Host Mountain Resort for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and has an exciting sports and cultural community supported by events, initiatives and facilities.

The municipality spans an area of 12,630 hectares, with about 90 per cent of the land set aside as natural area, including 19 parks and six lakes surrounded by mountains.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) provides leadership, planning, stewardship and investment toward an engaged, successful and prosperous community that helps make Whistler one of the world’s favourite mountain destinations.
