Zeballos Real Estate Listings and Information
Take the turn off just north of Woss on Highway 19 and travel 40 km to the fishing Village of Zeballos, nestled at the end of an ocean inlet at the mouth of the Zeballos River on the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
Gold was discovered in the 1930s, and Zeballos became a thriving 'instant' town. Most of the buildings are from that era, and historic building markers describe the previous uses of many buildings. However, when World War II began, the work force dwindled. After the War, the price of gold did not justify the mine's operation, and by the 50s, it had closed permanently. The logging industry has heped to keep the small community going.
Zeballos is now a popular fishing and eco-adventure community, where visitors can enjoy hiking, wildlife viewing, caving, rock climbing, diving, kayaking and fishing. In the fall, the fishing is great - just ask the bears and bald eagles - who love to fish the Zeballos river!
