Bedford, NS

Bedford is a community outside of Halifax located on the northwestern end of Bedford Basin, an extension of Halifax Harbour. Bedford was incorporated as a town in 1980 and became part of the Halifax Regional Municipality when it was formed in 1996. Bedford is often referred to as a “Bedroom Community” because so many of its residents live in the community but commute to work in other areas of HRM.

In the early days of its growth, much of the housing and services for Bedford were situated along the Bedford Highway and Bedford Basin  As time moved on, Bedford began its expansion to the west and northwest where housing and condo developments abound. The growth has included the necessary infrastructure of schools and services required to service the growing population.

 The Chickenburger Restaurant, Bedford, NS

The Chickenburger along the Bedford Highway is an institution in Bedford; it is reputed to be the oldest drive-in diner in Canada. It opened its doors in 1940 and has been an icon in the community since serving up its famous chicken burgers, burgers, fries and shakes.

 Bedford Basin

Shore Drive runs along the Bedford Basin and houses some of Bedford’s oldest and most valuable real estate. Along Shore Drive is the Bedford Basin Yacht Club established in the early 50’s and the Bedford Lions Park site of a 25m outdoor swimming pool and splash pool. The houses along Shore Drive have spectacular views of the Bedford Basin.

Bedford is home to lots of new developments that include single family, condos and apartments as well as shopping and services designed to meet the needs of its residents.

Family & Kids

Blog Posts About: Family & Kids
As I look back over my younger life with my parents and now my adult life with my own kids, it's easy to recognize the impact of being brought up with strong values and sense of self, firm ethics, and the importance of keeping promises. Today is “Pink Shirt Day”, ... Read More...
