Halifax, NS

Halifax Regional Municipality is the capital of the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. The municipality is commonly called Halifax  or HRM.

The population of Halifax in 2010 was 403,188 giving the municipality the largest urban area in Atlantic Canada and largest population centre in Canada east of Quebec City.

Maritime Command Museum

Halifax serves as the business, banking, government and cultural centre for the Maritime region. The municipality has a growing concentration of manufacturing industries and is becoming a major multi-modal transportation hub through growth at the port, the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, and improving rail and highway connections.

Halifax Public Gardens

Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of HRM. Within  HRM, the  two container terminals located in the south and north ends of the city provide employment and economic benefits through the thousands of containers they handle daily.

Halifax is a popular tourist destination; it combines the international essence of a major port city and naval base, with the youthful vibe of a university town, and the culture and heritage of one of Canada’s most historic communities. It offers something for everyone with its wide array of festivals and events, museums, historic sites and so much more. Sitting on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Halifax is a popular destination with sailors and landlubbers alike.

Construction and Expansion

Blog Posts About: Construction and Expansion
Now that Spring has finally settled in and looks like will be staying awhile, the pesky little critters that also wait for the warmer weather have arrived too. I don't know of too many homes in Nova Scotia that aren't affected by ants. I now expect to come home and see my significant other sitting in various spots of the house, staring intently at a spot on a wall or floor. At first I was a tad confused ... Read More...

The recent reports of the first 400ppm CO2 readings detected in the atmosphere have caused ripples of fear for those concerned about the environment. And even if you weren’t bothered about the world around you, you’ve got to admit that the cost of running our homes isn’t getting cheaper. This means green construction will continue to be a sensible option, both for selfish ... Read More...

Family & Kids

Blog Posts About: Family & Kids
As I look back over my younger life with my parents and now my adult life with my own kids, it's easy to recognize the impact of being brought up with strong values and sense of self, firm ethics, and the importance of keeping promises. A few months back, my 8 yo son came up to me very concerned, "Mom, you broke your promise to take me to the playground yesterday. That's not very nice." Once it ... Read More...

Bullying hurts – physically, mentally, emotionally.   Everyday kids (and adults) are bullied – by peers and co-workers, by strangers and sometimes by family or friends. They are bullied by people who think it is OK to diminish someone’s self worth, their beliefs, their very being through words or actions meant to hurt. And it is NOT OK! Today is “Pink Shirt Day”, ... Read More...

Restaurants / Bars / Coffee Houses

As I sit here at Starbucks enjoying my spinach/egg white/feta cheese wrap and medium roast venti coffee with whole milk and a sweetener, oh and a dash of vanilla, I'm hit with the fact that people watching is a contagious past-time.
