Bloomfield is a part of the beautiful region of Prince Edward County. Prince Edward County is located in Southern Ontario on a large irregular headland or littoral at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. This headland (officially named Prince Edward County in 1792) is situated next to the Bay of Quinte. As the Murray Canal now connects the bay to Lake Ontario across the only land connection, the county is technically an island.
With a small population of around 600 people, Bloomfield is a peaceful town with a vibrant arts community, with art classes and workshops, studio tours, and live music. The Quarter Moon coffeehouse is a regular event that runs on Thursdays at 7:30 pm, featuring live music. It is an open-stage concept, open to professional and amateur musicians with a whole spectrum of musical styles.
Prince Edward County in recent years has become a top culinary destination. With emerging artists and wineries around every corner, there is never enough time to take in all the region has to offer. From the historic Black River Cheese Company which started operations in 1901 to the new LEED-certified, award-winning Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Factory, the ‘County’ as it is referred to, boasts of being both a tranquil and culinary destination hot spot. For fine dining, visit The Bloomfield Carriage House Restaurant.
Both the Arts Trail and the Taste Trail are great ways to explore the scenic Prince Edward County and to experience what it has to offer. The arts trail features 30 sites including studios and galleries. The Taste Trail offers 32 sites, including wineries, cheese factories, gourmet restaurants, and cafés.
Perhaps the most popular attraction near Bloomfield is the Sandbanks Provincial Park, drawing thousands of visitors from far and near. The park offers kilometres of clean beaches, and is good for swimming, camping, fishing, boating, and hiking. The Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park is also a must see geological curiosity and great picnic spot.
