Delhi Real Estate Listings and Information
Founded by Frederick Sovereen as early as 1826, the town was initially named Sovereen's Corners, then Fredericksburg . In 1856, the name of post office was changed to Delhi , probably for the capital of India . Today, Delhi boasts a diverse ethnic makeup, bringing many cultures and heritages together to strengthen the community. Unique to the town is the Tobacco Auction Exchange and the Ontario Tobacco Museum & Heritage Centre which preserves the rich history of the tobacco industry. Annual events include Harvest Festival, held each September, featuring midway rides,a car show, parade and food. Delhi has a lot to offer – as a number of well-established businesses have already discovered. With 4,000 people, Delhi combines a charmingly rural environment with an exceptionally favourable location. Ringed by the gigantic commercial and industrial areas of Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe and the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York, Delhi represents the best of both worlds. Add to this a temperate climate, outstanding recreational and healthcare facilities, a culturally diverse population, an excellent labour force . . . and you have a potential for development that’s unlimited. In many respects Delhi reflects the best of small town Ontario. The physical layout of the community is compact so you can walk or bike to all businesses and services. Many local stores and businesses are locally owned and operated and offer exceptional customer service and locally grown fruits and vegetables.
