WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD OF KEEWATIN!!
Now a part of the newly-amalgamated City of Kenora Keewatin is situated on the northern shore of Lake of the Woods. It is is the first town you'll encounter as you travel eastbound from Manitoba into Ontario. From the east, motorists drive across the Keewatin Channel Bridge. Spanning the widest channel on Lake of the Woods, the bridge is the Trans Canada's Highway's highest crossing over a body of water. Keewatin Beach is a great place for swimming, with a beach and docks for the swimmers and large trees for those wanting shade.
Situated in Keewatin is a small grocery store, arena, curling club, gas stations, banks, a public library, the historical Mather Walls House and much more. There are two elementary schools in Keewatin, and students are eligible for busing to high school.
THE KEEWATIN ARENA AND CURLING CLUB

KEEWATIN PUBLIC SCHOOL: Keewatin Public School is a small community elementary school with approximately 118 students, 10 teaching staff and numerous support personnel. Approximately 33% of the student population is aboriginal. Although they are small, their experienced and capable staff work effectively to provide a solid, well rounded and enriched education for students. Keewatin Public School provides a learning environment in which the children develop as literate, self-motivated and directed problem solvers, with an awareness of the roles and responsibilities in a changing society.
St Louis School: St. Louis is a small catholic elementary school in the neighbourhood of Keewatin. The school is situated in a quiet residential area and in close proximity to St. Louis parish church. The school received a major renovation in 1987 when 2 new classes, gymnasium and office area were added. This school is well founded in the history of the town dating back to when it was administered by the nuns.
MATHER WALLS HOUSE:
The Mather-Walls House, and indeed the entire community of Keewatin, can be traced to the vision of one family – the Mathers. The Mathers introduced the Presbyterian Church, the telephone, sawmills and the benefits of a thriving economy to the good citizens of Keewatin. Mather-Walls, built in the Queen Anne style, is one of three nearly identical homes in Keewatin commissioned by the Mathers in 1889. Today, the house contains turn-of-the-century furnishings from the early 1900s, and an interpretive display high-lighting the significant impact of the Mather family on the development of the area. Mather-Walls House is open for visitors from May through Labour Day Weekend.
KEEWATIN BEACH: Keewatin Beach, on Lake of the Woods, is located on Beach Road. Cool off and picnic here in the shaded areas with the family. The unsupervised public beach, playground area and picnic area are free for public use.
