Willowdale continues to be among the top five desired places in the City to live. Along with it's transportation access and wonderful Parks and Community centres, people are finding that it is ever growing with Culture, Entertainement and Business'. In this Blog, I want to specifically recognize the area of Yonge and Finch in Willowdale. This is where I see much of the action. On the west side of Yonge St just south of Finch Ave, there is a pocket of semi-detached homes. These homes have lately reached new sales high's when placed on the market. Two streets in particular are red hot at the moment, Santa Barbara and Holcolm. Both these streets have a series of semi's followed by some detached homes towards the end of the street. The detached homes are selling like hot cakes. They are selling for over the asking price and in less than ten days on the market. A property like this sold a couple of doors down from me and it sold over asking. When the new owners took possession they completely gutted the property and then must have spent another $50-$60 thousand. With all this said, you might ask why. Why are they selling so fast and for over asking? They are in such demand because of the convenience. Unless you are living in a condo, these are the closest residential units from the subway at Yonge and Finch. Not to mention the parks and the community centre all walking distance. Plus the streets are quiet, there is no through traffic.
When my parents purchased their property at Yonge and Finch over 25 yrs ago, there was absolutely nothing there. Yonge and Finch was the boonies, no body wanted to live out that far north. Today you can't get in unless you are willing to pay top dollar, and possibly fight off multiple offers.
