Buckingham Real Estate Listings and Information

Buckingham:    Set on the banks of the Lievre River, Buckingham is one of the Outaouais oldest and most vibrant cities.  Since January 1, 2002, it has been part of the amalgamated city of Gatineau which merged five former municipalities, including Masson-Angers, Buckingham, Hull, Aylmer and Gatineau, into a single entity.   Lievre River - Buckingham

Settled in the early 1800’s, the city of Buckingham's economy has been dominated by the MacLaren lumber dynasty, a leader in the lumber industry in the Outaouais for over a century.  The MacLaren group of companies  also  developed hydro dams, real estate developments, sports facilities and the wood pulp industry.

Today, Buckingham is a busy community of over 23,000 residents.  The larger city centers of Ottawa and Gatineau (30 kms away) are easily reached by car or public transport via Autoroute 50.  There is also a year-round ferry service across the Ottawa River between Masson-Buckingham and Cumberland, Ontario (just east of Ottawa). The crossing takes about 5 minutes.    Masson-Cumberland ferry

All major services are available -  hospital, golf, primary and secondary schools, shopping, public swimming pool, library, ice rink, grocery stores, banks and restaurants. With these services readily available, numerous new housing developments are being built which are sought after by purchasers.

Outside the city center, there are numerous lakes and rivers, hiking and skidoo trails for the outdoor enthusiast.  There is also an active farming community in the region.   You can find many local products and merchants every week at the farmers-flea market in the neighbouring village of Masson-Angers (www.encanlarose.com).
