Low is situated along the Gatineau River north of Wakefield about 35 km from Ottawa/Gatineau. It’s first residents, of Irish origin, settled here in the early 19th century, and today, the residents of Low are known for their volunteerism and community spirit. An indoor hockey/skating arena was built by the community and is run by volunteers.
Low is also the starting point of the "Véloroute des draveurs", a regional cycling path (55 km) and part of the Trans-Canada Trail, created on the old CPR railway line.
Hydro-Quebec runs the impressive Paugan Dam on the Gatineau River. Put your boat or canoe in the Gatineau River just above the dam and you will feel like the first voyageur of long-ago discovering the majestic Gatineau River.
