Lac Cayamant

Cayamant comes from the Algonquin term Kakgama, Kandikagamaw, or Kandikagama which  means "porcupine". Alternatively, it may come from Kantuagama, which means lake with a large bay.

Lac Cayamant is a large, sand-bottom lake measuring approximately 7 km in length by 1 km in width.  The landscape surrounding the lakes is rolling hills covered with mixed forest.  Located about 75 minutes north of Canada’s capital, it is well known to the residents of the National Capital Region as a great cottage destination.   Its large size allows for all types of watersports and also good fishing.

There are several outfitters in the area for deer and moose hunting as well as fishing in the many surrounding lakes.

The village, situated at the north end of the lake, has a primary school, a church, and some convenience stores, restaurants and some basic commerce.
