Formed in 1974 by the merger of the towns of Perkins, Saint-Pierre-de-Wakefield and Poltimore, it consists mainly of farms and mountainous forests. However, because the area is within commuting distance of Ottawa/Gatineau, it is now considered a residential/cottage community.
With over 125 lakes within its boundaries, varying in size from some of the smallest to some of the largest in the area, the amazing scenery will dazzle you. The larger lakes such as Grand, McGregor, St-Pierre, 
St-Germain and Dam have been long-time favourite cottaging areas for Ottawa and Gatineau residents. In recent years, many of these cottages have been converted to full-time residences.
