Located about 20 kilometres inland of Halifax is the small but mighty town of Sackville. It was founded in 1749 and once known by the Mi’kmaq as a prime fishing and hunting location as well as a stopover place for passing settlers. It is now an emerging urban town dominated by young, growing families.

Almost a quarter of Sackville’s population is made up of residents under the age of 20, according to the province’s website. All these young families mean Sackville has a wide array of community schools with 12 elementary schools, four junior high schools and two high schools.

Don’t worry about missing the urban buzz of Halifax – in Sackville, residents can choose the busyness on Sackville Drive or the relaxation of its quiet subdivisions or proximity to local lakes. Located in the heart of Sackville is Downsview Plaza. It’s a one stop shop for everything you need for the family. You can also grab a quick meal or sit down to eat at one of Downsview’s fast food and home style restaurants. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the plaza, you’ll be sure to find it before reaching the end of Sackville Drive.

Sackville also has two bus terminals conveniently located at each end of town for commuters who take the bus. The Metro Link is a high speed transit system which travels from Sackville to downtown Halifax various times throughout the day.
