I recently spent the evening with one of my neighbours and was introduced to one of the coolest home decorating/ crafting ideas I have ever seen in a long time. The use of vintage wine crates as wall art. Its so simple, yet so incredibly unique.
If you have ever ventured into the "expensive" part of the LCBO you may notice that the vintage wines are stores in wooden crates as oppose to the regular printed cardboard the wine I drink comes from! So what does the LCBO do with these crates...well...if you ask nicely enough they will give them to you FOR FREE!. So what my neighbour did was she took the crates and removes the logo portion of the crate. She disregards the non logo portion of the crate and with the logo portion she secures them to her wall. Before long, with a few visits to the LCBO she accumulated quite the collection. In addition, the duplicate crates (one she's already obtained the logo for the wall) she uses around the house for storage, etc.
So I thought, why not even take this one step further? I have decided that the next time i am looking for a gift basket, I will instead use one of these beautiful FREE crates. , The more I investigated the various used for these vintage crates, the more I fell in love with them. Using them as planters in the garden for herbs and spices, attaching a few together and using them as shelving on the wall, etc, etc. The possibilities are endless!
Anyone that knows me knows that I love the idea of recycling something old and making it new again. They also know that I am highly un-crafty and don't like things that take that much effort. So with all that in mind this is definately something I will be trying in my home. Happy crafting!
