For my fourth installment of STAGING TIP OF THE DAY, here are 2 tips about lighting and scale. Put a shine on your homes strengths while downplaying it’s weaknesses:
- Its all about good lighting. Consider replacing some older, outdated fixtures with new ones. Chandeliers are often a high-impact focal point in a room, yet you can get some beautiful pieces from Home Depot or Lowes for a great price. Have your home well lit before you leave for a showing (never leave the house with all the lights off – the agent showing the home will turn things off when they are done).
- Its also all about the scale. Just because you love to lounge on that giant sectional sofa doesn’t mean it works in the room. If your furniture is making a room appear small, it not the right pieces. Put the larger items in storage and rearrange the room into smaller groupings, with ample space to move around. Don’t push everything against the walls – small floating groups of furniture are best.
