As dawn broke with clear skies over the Annapolis Valley this morning, Greenwood, Nova Scotia welcomed Walmart to our community. A small but cheerful group of residents, local dignitaries, and store associates was on hand for the brief ceremony to mark the opening of the Greenwood store.
Response in the community has been very positive, and local merchants are expecting Walmart to stem the flow of retail dollars out of Greenwood towards the larger centres like New Minas and Halifax. It is hoped that this new Walmart will draw in more shoppers from our surrounding communities like Kingston, Aylesford, Middleton and Nictaux.
The ceremony which began at 07:00, included a group of students singing O Canada, a commitment to supporting the local community including the Upper Room food bank in Kingston, and a video presentation on the store preparation. The students then finished things off by cutting the thick red ribbon in dramatic fashion, the store was officially opened for shopping, and cake (no cookies :-( ) was served.
Now Greenwood has its own Walmart… Just one more great reason to live in Nova Scotia’s beautiful Annapolis Valley!
