Blackfalds: A Nice Place to Grow

Truly, Blackfalds is a nice place to grow – but don’t take our word for it. Come for a visit and discover for yourself why Blackfalds is the perfect place to live, work, and play.

At one time Blackfalds was referred to as the “Bedroom Community” or simply put – a commuter town. It was a place to buy a starter home that was a close commute to work and play in Red Deer.

That was 10 years ago; since those days Blackfalds has grown into a GREAT community to live, work and raise a family. From skateboard parks, to water spray parks; from their new Multiplex to a state of the art Cultural Centre which houses an amazing Library and a Seniors’ Activity Center. All within walking distance.

A true bedroom community, Blackfalds is located a short 20-minute drive north of all the conveniences the city of Red Deer has to offer. With a population of almost 7,000 people, Blackfalds is one of the fastest growing communities in central Alberta, and it’s easy to see why. Read on to find out why you might like to call Blackfalds home too.

Recreation

With its proximity to Red Deer and Lacombe, Blackfalds shares in the same recreation opportunities that these two larger communities enjoy, including cultural venues, community events, recreational centres, parks and trails, and entertainment. But Blackfalds itself has some wonderful facilities as well: a library, a recreation centre complete with arena, a skateboard park, a spray park, and some scenic parks and trails of its own.

Blackfalds hosts ball tournaments and Blackfalds’ Days.

Shopping

Blackfalds residents will find all of the staples right in town, including a variety of shops and eateries, a trendy coffee shop, a grocery store, hair salons, a drugstore, restaurants, and much more throughout the community. But for greater variety, Red Deer is the place to go. Because Blackfalds is so close to the north-end of Red Deer, shoppers have quick and convenient access to Parkland Mall and a wide range of other stores and services off the city’s major north-south connector road.

Schools

Two public schools – an elementary and a junior high school – serve the students of Blackfalds, but other options are only a short drive away. With the array of public, private, and Catholic schools in both Red Deer and in Lacombe, including two post-secondary institutions, Blackfalds learners will find many educational opportunities in the immediate area.

Work

A true bedroom community, Blackfalds is a nice, convenient location from which to commute both to Red Deer and to Lacombe. Close to Red Deer’s industrial area, which is the base of operations for many companies in the oilfield servicing, manufacturing, and construction industries, Blackfalds residents have a variety of options a short 10-minute drive away. Even closer is the Nova Chemicals Joffre site, which employs over 700 people.

Worship

Blackfalds is home to three places of worship: United Church; Maranatha Christian Fellowship; and Blackfalds Cornerstone Fellowship. And its convenient location between the cities of Red Deer and Lacombe means people of many different faiths will have no trouble finding a place to worship close to home.

Construction and Expansion

The average sale price in Red Deer for 2012 versus 2011 is up by $21,436 Does this mean my house price has gone up? Not necessarily. We have seen an increase in the unit sales of higher end properties. This plays a large part in the increased average sale price. In 2012, we had 21 sales in the $700,000+ price range compared to 11 in 2011. Our most active price range in 2012 was $250,0000-$300,000 with ... Read More...
