I love this festival for a number of reasons, one of the most important being that it let's me know that winter is in it's dying days. Also its just good healthy outdoor fun, when the days are longer and hopefully warmer too!
Entering its twenty-fourth year, the Silver Skate Festival is the longest running winter festival in the City of Edmonton.
Still rooted in Dutch traditions, in recent years the festival has become an extravaganza of art, culture, recreation and sports programming in William Hawrelak Park.
As the lake at the park is being drained, for the upcoming ITU World Triathlon in August, this year's sporting events will be hosted at Hawrelak Park and at our satellite sight, the Victoria Oval. Marathon skate races and the Kortebaan, a traditional Dutch long blade sprint race will be held at the Victoria Oval on River Valley Road while the Edmonton Winter Triathlon will take place in Hawrelak Park.
The Festival runs from Februaury 14th to the 23rd 2014. Maybe this year do something different on St. Valentines Day!!
