As we approach the end of 2010 and our first year of owning Century 21 Granite Realty Group Ltd., we thought it would be a good opportunity to provide an end of year update on the market in Haliburton County.

As these statistics show, 2010 was a good bounce back year for cottage sales in Haliburton County. Volume for waterfront properties rose significantly (13.5%), prices remain stable. High end properties were the big story for our County, really pushing the market. This is the market seeing the effects of “Boomers” coming to our area. We have so much to offer folks looking to start their retirement plans. We have a very active Arts economy (Arts Council with over 350 members), a year round College, curling club and ski hill with records each year. We also are close to having year round High Speed Internet for the entire County, enabling people to spend 3 or 4 days a week here and continue working. The only segment of the economy that was hurting is residential and more specifically, the low end or “starter” market. The changes CMHC and the Banks have made for first time home buyers seems to be having an effect on the market.
Overall, a positive year and we look forward to another good year in 2011. With the quality of our lakes and towns, privacy and close proximity to the GTA, we expect the area to continue to grow. Anne and I would like to thank our clients who we were able to help this year and look forward to working with you or your friends, family, associates again. We are a “full service” Real Estate Company with 28 dedicated professionals and 30% of the market place to serve you!
