Summer Events for Sun Peaks in June 2009

June 20th SPCA Charity Trail Ride - Come out and support a good cause.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in BC. Through its branches located around BC and its provincial office in Vancouver, the BC SPCA provides a wide range of services for more than 40,000 homeless, abused, injured and abandoned animals around the province. The BC SPCA was created under the auspices of the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and is the only animal welfare organization in BC which has the authority to enforce laws relating to animal cruelty and to prepare cases for Crown Counsel for the prosecution of individuals who inflict suffering on animals.

June 27th Jo's Road Running race; opening day for summer lift operations; opening day for pike park; opening day for Sunburst Express: Jo's Road running race is a 1, 5 or 10 walk or run event supports the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  For more details click here.

June 27th and 28th Canada Day Celebrations.  At Sun Peaks celebrating Canada Day usually means live tribute bands, clowns, and lots of toys for the kids young and old.  Did I mention that all of this is complimentary?

June 28th Sun Peaks and Region Farmers Market (continues every Sunday through the summer): Help us create sustainable, local industry by purchasing local, free range, and organic produce this summer at Sun Peaks Resort.

This is an opportunity for guests and locals to purchase fruits and veggies from local farmers that have been pulled from the ground or picked from trees that morning. Fruits, vegetables, meat, baked goods, pottery, crafts and plants are just a sample of what will be offered from local farmers at Sun Peaks over the next couple months.

The Sun Peaks Village will be alive with buskers and entertainment during the Farmers' Markets this summer, creating a unique ambiance for customers while they shop. Come up for the market, and stay for the day in the natural mountain environment that is Sun Peaks.

June 29th Mountain Bike Freeride Camps Begin

This summer's bike camps will be our most exciting yet with professional mountain bikers Graham Agassiz, Matt Hunter, and Kurt Sorge joining our team of Sun Peaks Resort professional coaches. The contest results and video parts are a testament of their riding ability. Not only do they have the skills, but they also have the personalities to ensure every kid has a positive experience.

All aspects of freeriding will be covered during the week. Our team of coaches will develop camper's skills and confidence, so they can hit the wooden features, hammer the single track, flow through the machine made trails, and send it on the dirt jumps. The coaches are also going to focus on mountain bike setup and maintenance.

Freeride Camps are suitable for riders 10 to 17 years of age, riding at a low intermediate level to an advanced level. Students will be grouped together based on riding ability. The camper to coach ratio is 7 to 1. Camps start every morning at 9:00am and end at 3:00pm with a lunch break in between.

June 30th Toonie Day.  Ride the lift for a toonie.  It is the one day I can afford to go out and let my hair down. Just kidding.
