The great thing about downtown living is all the great festivals and events right at your door step. This past weekend the two events I was most excited for was the launch of the Tiff festivities and the unveiling of the new statue, "Legends Row" at the ACC in conjunction with the Maple Leafs fan fest weekend.
King street was alive with stargazers, live music, expanded patios and of course MOVIE STARS! Now I'm not one who gets easily starstruck but I gotta say it was pretty cool when I encountered Al Pacino leaving the King Street Social Kitchen at the Hyatt Regency! My son was also pretty stoked about meeting Bane (Tom Hardy) from the Batman movie "The Dark Knight Rises" who was exiting the Tiff Bell Lighthouse after the premier of his new movie, and James Gandolfinis last, "The Drop"
On Saturday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their new statue "Legends Row" in front of the ACC in Maple Leafs Square, featuring Ted Kennedy, Johnny Bower and Darryl Sittler as the first three Leafs legends to be cast in bronze. After watching the unveiling on TV my family decided to take a walk down to the ACC to catch a glimpse of this new monument and to see what fan fest was all about. Unfortunately when we arrived we did find out what this event was all about...MONEY! Tickets were $40.00 to $65.00 or you could pay $500.00 for VIP access! That's more money than tickets to a stanley cup champion L.A Kings Game and you actually get to see a game! You couldn't even see the new monument as the area was all fenced off! I've been a life long Leaf fan, but geez, they make it hard to love them.
Well, at least we have another week of Tiff to look forward to and hopefully rub shoulders with some stars and the start of the Leafs training camp is just around the corner, but after my experience this weekend I'll take the red carpet over the blue and white.
