Farmer's Markets in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia- Buy local!

I love this time of year...everything is starting to grow, the trees are budding out, and the grass needs mowing.  It's a beautiful, busy time.  This past week, the farmer that rents a field we own was busy planting onions.  I've seen fields newly plowed, some already planted, and farmers out on their tractors hard at work to produce the food we need.  The Annapolis Valley is a vital piece of the agricultural picture here in Nova Scotia.

I read in the paper that the Kentville Farmer's Market is set to begin it's new season on Wednesday, May 26.  This mid-week market is a great place to pick up fresh veggies and other locally produced goods like bread.  Located in Centre Square till late fall, the hours of operation are 10am-2pm every Wednesday afternoon.

Berwick's market will kick off Season #2 in the Town Hall parking lot by the big Berwick Apple.  Thursday evenings from 6-8pm, starting May 20, local vendors will be available with a variety of goods.

The Wolfville Farmer's Market continues on Saturdays from 8:30am-1pm.  They set up at the Robie Tufts Nature Centre on Front Street in Wolfville from May through September, and then move to the Student Union Building on Highland Ave. at Acadia University for the winter.  They are fundraising to do renovations in their newly acquired permanent spot in the DeWolfe building.  Check out their web site at www.wolfvillefarmersmarket.com

Let's do our part and support these local producers and suppliers whenever they set up shop, and on any trip to the grocery store, make it a point to buy local!
