Pumpkin Regatta, Windsor, Nova Scotia

Windsor, Nova Scotia holds a Pumpkin Regatta every October since 1999. The Pumpkin Regatta’s first year had an operating budget of $50.00, with 2,000 spectators who turned out to watch five participants attempting to maneuver their hollowed-out giant pumpkins across Lake Pesaquid which goes from Falmouth to Windsor.
In 2000, the Atlantic Pumpkin Growers Association, which organizes the annual Pumpkin Weigh-off, partnered with The Pumpkin Regatta on promotional material and assisted in the acquisition of giant pumpkins for Regatta participants. By 2001, The Pumpkin Regatta had grown into a major attraction, with enquiries from across Canada and the United States.
Early in 2001, it was obvious to all involved that Weigh-off and Regatta events were complimentary, and the Windsor~West Hants Pumpkin Festival Society was founded.
Now this event has vendors and concessions along the waterfront, with lots of entertainment with over 30 participants some years with spectators from one side of the waterfront to the other. A couple of years back they had retired Boston Bruins Bobby Orr and many other well know names.
This is an annual event that all should try to attend.
