Fall is in the air - how to prepare!

The leaves are turning, our evenings are getting shorter... we know we need to get ready for the 'season' ahead!  What to do?  Here's a few friendly reminders of the things one can do to make sure you don't have house related issues when old man winter arrives!   Firstly, make sure that your furnace filter is clean, and if not, replace it.  Ensure that your furnace is running well, and having a carbon monoxide detector in the home is always a good idea.  Also ensure that you have disconnected all outside hoses from their water source, to avoid water freezing and your hose exploding.  Make sure all taps are off completely.  If you have a sump pump in your home, also remove the long part of the hose at the outside of the home to avoid freezing and back pressure.  Just make SURE it is re-attached when spring thaw happens.  If you've had windows throughout the home open during the summer, make sure they are all closed and locked properly before it gets bitterly cold, as at that point they will be permantly open for the winter!  Then you get out a throw blanket or two, stock up on hot chocolate, and embrace the next season!
