Gold River Real Estate Listings and Information

Gold River

Gold River plays an important part in BC's history.  It is the closest village to Friendly Cove or Yuquot where British explorer Captain James Cook met Chief Maquinna of the Mowachaht Nation.  The name Gold River first appears on maps from the 1860s, when Chinese settlers were remvoing Gold from the area, however, the town itself was built in 1965 to support the logging industry.  It was BC's first all-electric, all underground services community, and this is a large part of Gold River's appeal today.  After a scenic one hour drive from Campbell River along paved Highway 28, you round the corner and the Village of Gold River appears, nestled in the mountains between the Gold River and the Heber River, without utility lines to spoil the view.

The pulp mill was the reason the village was created, but fishing and tourism are also mainstays.  The mill closed in 1998, but logging still plays an important part in the community's economy, and aquaculture is expanding.  Gold River has excellent services, such as doctors, 24 hour medical care, super market, fitness centre, ice rink, curling rink, swimming pool, golf course, pharmacy and much more.
