The Carling district stretches from the Thames River in the north to the CN train tracks in the south, east of Adelaide St. The district’s name comes from the prominent London businessman and politician John Carling, who started the Carling Brewing Company and represented London in both provincial and federal governments around the time of confederacy. This area notable as one of city’s oldest neighbourhoods.

The district is home to the Wolseley Barracks, established in the 1880s when London’s original military base was moved to make way for Victoria Park. Once officially known as Canadian Forces Base London, the base has since downsized with some of the buildings being torn down to make way for new residential development.

The northern portion of the district is found the Kipps Lane neighbourhood which has direct access to the north branch of the Thames River and the Kilally Meadows Environmentally Significant Area with walking trails available for local residents. Ed Blake park on Barker St. just north of Huron St., which recently underwent significant redevelopment and now has a splashpad, multi-purpose sport pad, pathways and plantings.
