As a fresh new year is well on it’s way, you might be one of the many people who have made resolutions or set goals. Way to go!
If you haven’t, it is not too late. Your “success” starts with a plan.
Did you know that setting goals is an exercise of hope?
Hope is alive when you dream about what IS possible. When you examine the different aspects of your life---your career, relationships, health, finances, and personal growth---What is it that you most want?
Setting goals is how you create a plan to intentionally achieve what you most desire.
IMAGINE THAT ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO DRASTICALLY IMPROVE YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE
One thing that I have experienced is that people who set inspiring goals, take ownership of their lives and believe that their personal success IS possible. They have a vision to see their lives getting better and better and setting goals is how they achieve this.
For example, if I truly want to be fit and healthy and want to experience the positive impact that it has in every aspect of my life, I absolutely must commit to make it happen. Wishful thinking will only keep me stuck, unproductive, disheartened, complaining and “frumpy”. When I am not my best, I know it and this affects my outlook on life. This is definitely not what I want!
SETTING GOALS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART
Studies prove that setting goals is key to success. Goals that are “Smart Goals”---Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely, plan to see results. This requires courage, determination and strength. Without consistent focus, full commitment, determination and discipline, it will never happen.
BUT WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT IS ONLY MID JANUARY AND ALREADY YOUR COMMITMENT IS BEING TESTED?
How do you stay motivated and on track?
REMEMBER YOUR VISION---WHAT YOU WANT AND WHY YOU WANT IT
What do you want? What is really important to you?
Your desire to be proactive and take action has so much to tell you.
- Do you want to have a better self-image, or be healthier, or be more successful and proud of your accomplishments at the end of the year?
- Do you want to have less conflict in your relationship and have more intimacy?
- Do you want to achieve results---have purpose and increased fulfillment and happiness?
- Do you want to make yourself a priority and keep the promises that you make to yourself because you matter?
Setting goals is a serious commitment to YOU! It is a way of exercising self-love. When you are determined to not compromise and give up, and know how important it is to honor yourself “for the sake of YOU”, seriously following through is the greatest confidence booster ever.
“IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN DO IT!” ~Walt Disney
If your dream is really important, you must keep it at the forefront. The only way to achieve it is to jump in with both feet, which means not sitting on the fence. Engaging in compromising conversations, overanalyzing things and making excuses is for “fence sitters’ and this is futile and unproductive. You must ENVISION your dream, BELIEVE it, and make it a serious PLAN. Commitment means taking action.
STAY MOTIVATED ON A DAILY BASIS
“Some say motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing---that is why we recommend it daily.”
~ Zig Ziglar
Motivation is a seed that needs planting on a regular basis. It is being proactive and intentional about what you want, and this means taking time for reflection.
Remember your wins last year. What were the challenges you faced?
- What did you learn that you want to carry into 2014?
- What are you grateful for?
- What will you do to keep yourself energized and engaged in this year’s plan?
Engage with positive people who inspire you.
- Make your “possibility goals” fun and plan celebrations.
- Hold yourself accountable.
- Have mentors in your life who challenge and help you grow.
- Have counsel in your life that encourages excellence and leadership.
The bottom line is that when you are the CEO of your life, you will make it happen!
I would love to hear what your intentions are for this year. If I can support you in any way, I am here to help!
Cheers to an awesome 2014!
