During the summer, you should have your ceiling fan turning counter clock wise, which helps to provide a cooling effect, by just making the room feel breezy. It does not cool the room. Not advisable to leave it on, when you leave your room for an extended peroid of time. Whereas during the winter, the fan should be rotating clock wise. This pemits the room to feel a bit warmer as the fan pulls down the hot traped air from the ceiling.
