THE LITTLE THINGS BEFORE MOVING DAY
1. Change address, notify post office, friends and business associates.
2. Transfer charge accounts, bank business and insurance records to new address.
3. Arrange for transportation of household goods
4. Change of address to newspaper, periodicals, etc.
5. Arrange to disconnect utilities, gas, electricity, water, cable [satellite] and telephone.
6. Arrange to connect services at new home. [see # 5]
7. Have heavy appliances serviced for the move.
8. Arrange to transport pets or have boarded locally during the move.
9. Dispose of flammable products.
10. Pack suitcases [if necessary] for the first day in your new home.
11. Pack the things you will need immediately in your new home in a separate carton. Mark clearly! Load it last, remove first and be sure not to let it get buried behind other boxes.
12. Empty and defrost the refrigerator 24 hours before moving. Clear and clean the range.
13. Hire a sitter for the moving day. You need to be free to look after things.
14. Plan to be at the loading and unloading of your household goods.
15. Know where you want your furniture placed in your new home.
16. Keep track of all expenses incurred in moving for income tax purposes.
17. Make a last tour of the house to make sure you aren't leaving anything behind.
