What a beautiful place we have moved to, the early mornings gives me time for a coffee while perusing the beauty and the wildlife here. The lobster boat seen here will be finished fishing for this year very soon and the 2 eagles on the lighthouse roof are checking out the action. What a beautiful day!

On Wednesday while working on our new house overlooking the lighthouse at Boularderie Island, I was stopped by a car pulling up and a young man getting out. He walked gingerly and was quite excited when he hollered “ hi we’re here from the big city Montreal and would like to walk across your property to the beach look at the lighthouse.” No problem was my reply and he asked can ...

It's been a long haul getting ready to move to our new lot. We made arrangements with a contractor to move and erect our foundation and ponywall but he failed to show and we had to try and find another. This lost us about 4 months but I was able to find a contractor Calvin MacDonald from Whycocomagh to do our project and he has turned out to be a great find. Wouldn't you know that the 1st ...

I've been back doing some short jogs on the Trail. On thursday I did 3km into a heavy head wind. Friday I did 4km into another heavy head wind. Saturday is beautiful no wind and 6km and I feel great. What a day, check out the picture of a beautiful day looking over the ocean. Quite a place this Cape Breton Island.

John Brison and his 3 man crew have left for a 7 month trip to the Caribbean. On board as crew are 3 capable guys, Jamie Kennedy, Joe Burroughs and Max Fuller. There were a number of people there at the dock in Baddeck wishing them a bon voyage and a joyeux noel as they will be soaking up the sun, not snow, the poor guys.

I had my first trip in my Bayfield today and what a beautiful trip it was. A friend and myself sailed her from North Sydney to St. Ann's Bay where I have her moored. It was a wonderful experience. the wind could have been a little stronger and less lobster pots would have been better but really not a complaint. It was a beautiful 7 hour trip. I suspect that my wife Barb and I will spend some really ...

Barb and I are going for our 1st sail of the year. it's just a beautiful morning, still a little cool but it looks like a great day. I am sitting watching the lobster boats working close to shore and they remind me of bees. they are in constant mortion going back and forth picking up their pots and resetting. Just a fabulous morning after the very heavy winds of last evening. The house was just vibrating ...

The weather has been dry and windy but a good rain brings on the trees. Spring is long and unpredictable at times but it produces fantastic views.

The last number of weeks has found me working on getting my boat "Easy Street" ready for a new sailor. My wife Barb and I are planning on getting on board and learning what the boat and the ocean will teach us. Our plan is to go to the Magdalen Islands next year so much work is needed to get our skills up to snuff. It's been a great spring and summer so far getting ready to bring her to our mooring ...

FYI in the 70's and 80's I was an insulation contractor and will be happy to help you with some hints on reducing energy costs and improving your insulation and ventilating needs. You don't have to have a contractor, much is easily done on a do-it-yourself basis.
Lets go one step at a time. The major loss on most properties is the heat being lost out of the attic area. Since heat rises ...
