Today I went rock climbing with a friend for the very first time. Went to the Toronto Climbing Academy. It's located at 11 Curity Ave, East York. The price was around $24 with shoe rental. Like a gym, you can go and climb for as long as you want. I only did "bouldering" because I'm a beginner. You don't need a harness for bouldering since the climb is approximately 10ft tall. There were quite a few people there; people of all shapes and sizes.
Here's a shot of some of the climbs where a harness is required.
Here is a portion of the "boulder". the rocks are all labeled with different colours which indicate different difficulties.
Here is a closer look. I always thought rock climbing would be easy but boy was I wrong. There's a lot of technique and problem solving involved. Also having strong fingers and a grip is very crucial as not all rocks were easily gripable. It was fascinating to watch people climb and learn from them. There were people of all levels. You didn't have to be strong to be good. My friend pointed out that you see more smiles in this type of gym than any other. I have to strongly agree with him. This was a very fun experience and I will definitely be back to challenge the harder climbs.
