A couple of chums and I decided to travel all the way to St. Claire West and west of Bathurst to try out a small yet interesting establishment by the name of the stockyards. Google's ratings rate this place a 4.4/5--good enough for me! The setting was of a rustic bar/diner feel. I don't believe they served alcohol. They prepare the food right in front of you on a hot grill. We arrived during lunch hour on a Thursday and all I could see were the busy chefs carefully preparing the orders. Many people ordered their burgers. This place is well known for their fried chicken. I ordered the fried chicken dinner.
The meat was tender, creamy and not too dry. very well seasoned. They served their sandwiches in a clean frying pan. Very interesting. The fries were also of a very generous amount.
Next I tried the pulled pork sandwich. It was very meaty and not too sweet like some of the other pull pork sandwiches I've had. The sauce just oozed out of my sandwich with every bite--quite satisfying! The coleslaw added a nice texture to the sandwich which I enjoyed.
Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try out their famous ribs. This has to do with them owning a wood smoker which allows them to smoke the meats for three days of the week (something to do with cooling the smoker back down after each use). Everything is prepared in house except for the buns. Next time I come I'll try the burgers. They looked fantastic! Thick and juicy.
I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a good sandwich or fried chicken (Better than KFC and popeyes for sure!). I was stuffed and happy after this meal.
