The local nature of the Real Estate business shows itself.

I have always preached that the 2 differences between the Real Estate business and the stock market is that Real Estate changes much slower and also unlike the stock market it is very local. Usually the stock market responds to world events or at least national events. Rarely if ever would you see 2 stock exchanges in the world going dramatically in opposite directions. However, right across Canada there are areas in recovery, areas booming and areas busting. Fort MacMurray Real Estate sales are down 60% compared to last year. Edmonton and Calgary are falling at almost the same rate. Vancouver and Toronto are picking up steam and continuing to boom. For the last 5 years while Alberta cities were booming in every way the Okanagan Shuswap was in a recessionary environment in every way. Now the Okanagan Shuswap Real Estate Market is surging ahead with sales up and prices rising. This will be an interesting and profitable year for people who invest in Real Estate in the Okanagan Shuswap.
