White Oaks Real Estate Listings and Information
The White Oaks district is one of London’s most densely populated and culturally diverse areas. 21,000 people live in the area bordered by Eden Ave to the south, the White Oak Drain to the west, Wellington Rd. to the east and Exeter Rd. to the south. The area is named after the Jalna novels written by Canadian writer Mazo Louise Roche. The series tells the story of the Whiteoak family and became a CBC television miniseries in the 1970s. The district is best known for the White Oaks Mall which was constructed in 1973, expanded in 1976, enlarged again in 1985 and 1988 and today there are over 175 stores and services found there. The residential area also built up throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
The heart of the neighbourhood is White Oaks Park the site of a neighbourhood Canada Day celebration. Connected to the park are the South London Community Pool on Bradley Ave. as well as the South London Community Centre, Jalna Library and the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre off of Jalna Blvd. where many activities and programs are offered. Several schools are found in White Oaks including: Ashley Oaks Public School, Cleardale Public School, Rick Hansen Public School, White Oaks Public School, St. Anthony Separate School and Sir Arthur Carty Separate School.
