You've probably noticed the towing metal structure at the waterfront, but how much do you actually know about Barrie's Spirit Catcher?
It was sculpted by artist Ron Baird, originally for the Expo 86 in Vancouver. The artwork was not used at the Expo, but bought by Helen McCrea Peacock Foundation in Toronto.
The sculpture was later donated to the Barrie Gallery Project in 1987.
It weighs approx. 20 tons, and measures 25 m (70 ft) wide and 21 m (65 ft) tall.
Now you know a little bit more about the Spirit Catcher and how it came to guard the shores of Kempenfelt Bay.
