I take great pleasure in writing these articles for your enjoyment and reading pleasure.   I hope you find them most helpful.  If there is some household issue you would enjoy seeing me write about, please drop me an email at and who knows, you may find the answer to your problem in my next issue.  It is my intent to help keep you well informed, therefore keep your home a happy one.  Like they say......"Being forewarned is forearmed".

My greatest pleasure I see is a smile on my client's face, and I hope this story brings you a smile. Words to live by, I love it.

Law of the Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.  We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.  My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean - he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that?

This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.  As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so ... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!  Have a garbage-free day!

The Scents of Fall

At this time of year, we are inundated with hundreds of scents; from the smell of fresh asphalt on our streets, to the smell of onions as we drive through the Holland Landing.

As a Realtor, sometimes the scents lingering in a home can affect our mood, and our overall perception of the home.

Offensive odours like cat urine can instantly kill any potential real estate offer.  To get rid of these unpleasant smells, buy some 3% peroxide in your local grocery or drug store and mix (1 part peroxide to 10 parts water), in an aerosol container and spray the affected area (usually rug or broadloom) thoroughly and the next day all traces of odor will be gone.  While not a permanent solution, it will definitely help you show your home more effectively.

The most common smell that can affect a buyer's decision to purchase a home is cigarette smoke, even if the owner or owners smoke outside or in their garage.  The smell of smoke on the occupants' clothes will be present throughout the home. The buyer, even if they want to make an offer, can think of nothing but how to get rid of that terrible odor.  This smoke smell is really bacteria in the air and it can be removed economically and effectively with a new product I have discovered.

That product is called Lampe Berger, and it is sold at Art Appreciation Gallery at 20 Bell Farm Road, here in Barrie.

Lampe Berger purifies and sterilizes the air by catalytic combustion of a specific product called ozoalcohol.  Originally invented for hospitals, it   became a prestigious adornment for the finer hotels and homes throughout Europe.   It is now economically available to all households throughout the world.

Lampe Berger has a 3-fold function, it:

  • Halts the proliferation of bacteria in the air
  • Deodorizes the room air by destroying unpleasant odours from pets, smoking and cooking
  • Adds a subtle fragrances the atmosphere

Lampe Berger also makes an excellent corporate gift, wedding/anniversary or housewarming gift, starting at $44.00.  You can visit the Art Appreciation Gallery, located at 20 Bell Farm Rd, Unit 6, Barrie, 705-722-6001 and ask for a FREE 5 minute demonstration.
