On Tuesday, April 8, the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters Humboldt met for a farewell meal and "celebration". BBBS of Humboldt is now affiliated as a satelitte office with BBBS of Saskatoon; the office and employees are still located in Humboldt and will continue to serve Humboldt and area. The programs will continue and even expand - in particular our In School Teen Mentors. We will continue to fund raise in Humboldt and area, our BOWL for KIDS SAKE is extrememly well supported, and all the money raised will STAY and be used for programming in the Humboldt area.
The decision to become affiliated with Saskatoon has been a year and a half "decision making process". Input was sought and a public meeting was held for wider input from the community and area. All agreed that the advantages of joining Saskatoon outweighed the status quo.
Volunteers will still be required for specific committes - Bowl for Kids Sake - that will meet perhaps 2x per year.
I have enjoyed my 6-7 years on the Board and will continue to volunteer. Thanks to the Board members throughout the years, the volunteers, those who donated to our fundraising, and especially to the "Bigs" and mentors who made a positive impression upon the children.
BBBS is in very competent hands as our two employees will continue to promote the program and connect "Kids" with "Bigs". A huge thank you to Stacey and Amy for all the work and dedication to the children of Humboldt and area.
