Humboldt is a happening community and this weekend marks the start of the Royal Bank Cup 2012. The RBC Cup is the annual hockey tournament held to determine the Canadian Junior A Champion. Teams from the East, West, Central and Pacific regions along with the host team take part.
The host team is the Humboldt Broncos, who also won the Anavet Cup in a hard fought 7 game series, against the Portage Terriers who will represent the West. The other teams involved are as follows: Soo Thunderbirds, Woodstock Slammers, Penticton Vees.
The opening ceremonies are at 7:30 on Friday, May 4 at the Elgar Peterson Arena. The first game is Saturday May 5, at 3 pm between the Penticton Vees and Soo Thunderbirds. Humboldt's first game is later that night at 7:30 against the Woodstock Slammers.
Over 300 volunteeers have signed up to make this week an enjoyable one. All sorts of activities are planned beginning with the Codie Prevost Cabaret Friday night to entertainment every night in the PotashCorp Events Center.
