The official handing over of the keys to the Humboldt Habitat house occurred on Friday, February 8. The ceremony was held at City Hall in the Council Chamber. Both the Knudtson and Pascal families were on hand to accept the keys from the Honourable June Draude, Social Services Minister and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. According to the Minister:
“Today’s dedication reminds us that we all need to work together to help making housing affordable for all. Every family deserves a place where they can put down roots, build their future and contribute to their neighbourhood and community. That is why our Government, through Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, is so proud to help Habitat for Humanity make this happen.” The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $100,000 to the build.
Also on hand were Mayor Malcolm Eaton who brought greetings from the City and presented each family with a mail box. Barb Cox-Lloyd, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Saskatoon, also welcomed the families to home ownership and presented them with a CMHC home maintenance manual. The Prairie Patchworkers Quilt Guild gave each family a beautiful hand crafted quilt. Co Chair Bob Bellamy congratulated the families on the completion of the 500 hours of labour that each family must put into the house. He welcomed them to the joy of home ownership and mortgage payments and presented them with their own Welcome Mat!
